Forget for a minute that a phone already named the Samsung Galaxy Beam hit the market almost two years ago. We can even ignore the fact that it spent some time entertaining the miners trapped after a cave-in in Chile. Yes, Samsung seems content to act like that phone never existed, and for whatever reason a large portion of those of us covering the tech industry (and those following blogs like this one) have chosen to have selective amnesia when it comes to the original Galaxy Beam.No matter which you prefer to label as the first smartphone with a built-in projector, the new Galaxy Beam shown off at this year’s Mobile World Congress has been confirmed for an April release in at least one region. The phone will launch in India (and possibly a few other Asian locales) at an unspecified price, at which point Samsung’s master plan to erase any memory of the 2010 Galaxy Beam will be complete. At this time it isn’t clear if or when the phone featuring a dual-core 1GHz processor and 4-inch display will hit the Europe and North America. The on-board pico projector is a unique touch but it’s hard to gauge the demand for such a feature. We happen to think it’s pretty cool, even if Samsung is trying to pass off last night’s leftovers as a fresh cooked meal. Check out our hands-on from MWC for more info.[via Androinica]

HTC has made the Ice Cream Sandwich kernel sources for the Vivid, the Sensation, and the Sensation XE available for download on their HTC Developer Center website. It's been about a week since HTC began rolling out ICS for the three devices, and per the license, these were to have been published when the software was released. Developers have been getting a little antsy waiting, but now have what they need to build custom kernels and Ice Cream Sandwich ROMs for the newly-updated phones. As usual, for normal users like you and I the source itself means little. But the magic that developers can make happen with it certainly has some appeal, and we're ready to see what folks can come up with. If you're one of those developers, or if you're just curious what a hundred MB or so of Linux kernel sources looks like, hit the link and have a peek.Source: HTC dev

In the community development team CyanogenMod Android has been very popular with the cook room for many different devices. Currently they are building a new rom called CyanogenMod 9, based on the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. An interesting new information is CyanogenMod notice, under which the post will not cook rom already active root, of course, if desired, the user can do this. Speaking of Android, they must say to root, root for an OS, you can have full permission to access anything of your device, reflect criteria OS "open".Explaining his decision, said they CyanogenMod wish to develop a better rom for users, in contrast to the already active root is also synonymous with the machine at high risk of bad software better exploit the vulnerability. By default, the Android OS is not available in your root, root you, then your machine can do more work, also means that you open many more doors for thieves to the house. With the open right handed users decide to root for, CyanogenMod probably also want users to take responsibility for their work. The move also shows that the new step of the development team, most likely in the near future CyanogenMod will be the default OS of any Android handset.

Here’s news that should put a smile on the faces of many people waiting impatiently for Samsung’s next flagship, the Galaxy S3, to come out. A senior manager at Samsung has apparently told the Korean Times, on the basis of anonymity, that the Galaxy S3 will be rocking an Exynos 4412 quad-core processor, with each core clocked at 1.5 GHz.The processor will be built on a 32 nm process, which will be responsible for the increased power efficiency, compared to Nvidia’s Tegra 3 processor (which is 40 nm), which will be its direct competitor. Besides being more power efficient, the Exynos 4412 will also have around 26 percent better performance than the Tegra 3 processors. The graphics performance will also be a lot better apparently, though no exact figures were given, so we’ll have to wait and see just how much better the graphics performance will be. The Tegra 3 processor is a powerhouse in itself, so the news that the Exynos will be even faster makes the wait even more exciting.Other already known and rumored specs of the Galaxy S3 include a 4.8″ HD Super AMOLED Plus screen, a ceramic back for a premium finish (instead of the plastic that Samsung has been using on all their phones till now), and Ice Cream Sandwich with on-screen virtual buttons powering the software. Oh, and not to mention a thin 7 mm profile that should make it one of the thinnest yet powerful devices ever. There’s still no news on when the Galaxy S3 will be announced, though it’s certainly a possibility that the 2012 Olympic games will be the venue where Samsung announces it. Of course, all we can do is wait and hope that the announcement comes as soon as possible, and also hope that it’s available for purchase soon after (which is what Samsung is aiming for i.e not too much delay between the announcement and availability).via Sammobile

EggyEnergy Caffeine ROM is an AOKP based ROM for the HTC Sensation, which brings the usual performance improvements and customization options as found in all other AOKP ROMs, along with Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0. Though similar to other AOKP ROMs at this point, the developer promises to add extra mods and features as time goes by.The ROM is a work in progress and under development and hence not complete right now, so expect bugs and issues and some things to not work properly. Earlier this month we revealed that Google had chosen ASUS to produce their upcoming “Nexus tablet.” This report was later echoed by Digitimes, who said the 7-inch tablet could arrive as early as May. This has been the hottest Android rumor of the month so we have continued to ask around and dig up more details. We just received some new information, so read on for the full report. The RumorThe ASUS MeMo 370T that was revealed at CES has been scrapped after Google contracted with ASUS to produce their “Nexus tablet.” Earlier reports said the device would retail for $249-199, but we are now told the target price is $149-199. The quad-core Tegra 3 version that was previously leaked is no more. Other than the 7-inch display, no additional information has been provided on the specs. The SourceThis latest rumor comes from a senior employee at a supply chain company based in the United States. They wish to remain anonymous. One Android Insider’s take on the rumor“It’s a done deal,” said the supply chain source. We have already heard countless rumors that Google was working on “a tablet of the highest quality,” and this latest report give us further confidence it’s going to happen. What’s most surprising about the latest rumor is to hear that the target price has been lowered to $149 and that the quad-core Tegra 3 processor is out. I’m going to assume these two bits are related. It sounds like Google wanted to undercut the Kindle Fire, so they lowered the bill of materials by going with a processor that was cheaper than Tegra 3. We heard similar stories last year that Amazon had originally chosen Tegra 2 to power the Kindle Fire, but they went with Texas Instruments’ OMAP4 at the last moment because they got a better volume deal.ASUS has a strong relationship with Qualcomm, so we might see a Snapdragon processor end up inside this “Nexus tablet.”We also found it noteworthy that our source called this device the “Nexus tablet.” The final product name has not been revealed, and we were curious if the Nexus branding was going to be used. I originally thought that this device might be called Google Play, but it turned out that was the name for Google’s new online content store. I’ll still go out on a limb and predict this tablet might be called Nexus Play. Many of our readers were excited about the ASUS MeMo 370T tablet as it stood, and I’m sure most will be upset to hear that it could be canned. Hopefully our source is wrong about that information. It could be that the MeMo 370T was slated to become the “Nexus tablet”, but Google wanted something cheaper so ASUS scrapped it and configured a lower spec’d device.I know a lot of people would buy a quad-core tablet at $249, so I hope ASUS still gives customers that option. However, ASUS did not show off the device at Mobile World Congress and they have been quiet about it, so who knows what’s going on with it.Wrapping up, we still expect this device to be announced at the CTIA Wireless show which takes place in New Orleans from May 8-10. Sources say it will ship with the latest version of Ice Cream Sandwich, but if this is truly a Nexus device it might become the flagship platform for the next version of Android, codenamed Jelly Bean. More information on Jelly Bean is expected to be revealed at Google IO on June 27-29th.Let us know what you think about this latest report in the comments below. Does the lower target price increase your chances of buying one? Will the lack of a quad-core Tegra 3 processor turn you away? Would you rather buy the $249 ASUS MeMo 370T as it was originally announced?Source: Android and Me

OMG!! Is this the Samsung Galaxy S III???Who knows. But at the very least it looks a bit more legitimate than the past few alleged images to have emerged online. The screen capture above appeared on Reddit this morning with little in the way of supporting information. However based on the dates and locations shown in the render, there's already rampant speculation that the Galaxy S III will be unveiled in London on May 22, tying into the build-up to the Summer Olympics (of which Sammy is a big sponsor). No doubt it's possible, but it's still a bit of a stretch based on one image of questionable veracity. If it is accurate, though, we could be looking at a phone with the usual physical/capacitive button setup, a 16:9 display, ICS, TouchWiz and a physical camera button -- none of which is particularly surprising. The presence of a metallic trim similar to that of the Galaxy Tab 2 and Galaxy Note 10.1 is interesting to note, too. If nothing else, there's way less wrong with this image than other purported Galaxy S III pics. Though that doesn't necessarily mean it's legit. The logo you see in the bottom right belongs to Weber Shandwick Worldwide, a large global PR firm. Samsung uses a whole bunch of PR agencies around the world, so it's entirely possible these guys are involved with promoting a future Samsung device. It's also entirely unconfirmed. We're sure to hear more about Samsung's next big thing as the Summer approaches, so keep it locked to AC for all the latest.Source: Reddit
